Lily Pond Mermaid with Goldfish Snack (June-July 2011)
A freshwater mermaid sits in a lily pond, enjoying a light snack.
As her long green hair floats up towards the surface,
it turns into water-weed and water-lilies, providing a tangle of camouflage through which goldfish swim placidly.
The mermaid eyes one such goldfish with a slight smile. With her other hand she is dropping fishbones onto a
submerged lily pad that serves her as a table.
Moreover, she has a built-in bra formed by the water-lilies growing on long stems out of her head and curving up under her armpit,
so the perennial problem of embarassing mermaidish nudity will have been solved to the satisfaction of all concerned.
Yes, everyone (apart from ardent goldfish lovers) should be happy with this painting. And I am talking particularly to the person or people
who have more than once visited my website with a search for the keywords 'mermaid in lily pond'. This one is for you!
'How nice a print of this picture would look on your bathroom wall!' I feel impelled to say.
You can also see images of this painting as a work in progress from start to finish.

Mer Mum and Comb (August 2010)
A scenario that is all too well-known to every parent of a school-age child, and yet so little represented within the sphere of fine art!
Here, this familiar domestic activity is transposed to an underwater fantasy world, where a mer family hover on the ocean bed
amongst clumps of sinister green-brown seaweed. The mother drags a comb through her daughter's tangled yellow locks,
while the father fingers his scalp anxiously. A bottle of 'Prawn Free' hair-conditioner stands on a nearby rock.
A painting that will surely be a 'must' for any aficionado of marine nit-combing themed art!
