Another picture on one of my favourite themes: non-human creatures with human heads. I have painted a lot of bird people, plus sphinxes and a wine-drinking octopus; now it is the turn of bats. I love bats! Certainly at least the European pipistrelle is a beautiful little creature. I love it when occasionally I spot one or a small flock of them, flickering through the twilight, and what is more, they are not black as commonly depicted, but golden-brown when seen in the electric light from a streetlamp or a house window. So why do these lovely animals get such a bad press? Perhaps it is partly because, to be frank, their faces are not of the prettiest. Easily sorted! I have given them cherubic human faces! My bat people are gathering to dance through the air amongst a fluttering of moonlit moths at the Pipistrelle Hallowe'en Party. Perhaps you too are planning a Hallowe'en party? If so, I do think a greetings card based on this picture might make a lovely invitation.
