Sue Burgess: CV
1999 - 2003
- Main duties:
- Writing an Oracle version of one of the company’s existing products, a risk management package originally running only as a client/server application with Sybase. This involved:
- Writing PL/SQL scripts to reproduce the original Sybase database functions as well as scripts for creation of tables, views, foreign keys, core users, roles and permissions, and loading of demo data into the tables using the ‘Sqlldr’ utility.
- Adaptation of the company’s pre-existing Powerbuilder application so that both the Sybase and Oracle versions could run using the same SQL syntax.
- Work on a thin client version of the application, which included writing some HTML pages manually, as well as Powerdynamo scripts to generate HTML dynamically, and CORBA components using Powerbuilder and Sybase Enterprise Application Server.
- First stages of a SQL Server version of the client/server product, mainly writing table creation and data loading scripts.
- Writing reports and designing graphs using Sybase SQL (Adaptive Server Anywhere) and Powerbuilder's Infomaker utility. I achieved some very significant enhancement of performance on some of these reports compared to the first efforts achieved by the company’s in-house staff, e.g. from about ten minutes to as many seconds.
- Salary: £85 per day
- Reason for leaving: Sought regular employment
